one: THE CHIEF HEALTH PROFESSIONS
OFFICER’S AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP (ENGLAND)
Sponsored by Department of Health England
The CHPO’s award seeks to recognise AHPs, at any stage of their
careers, who demonstrate in their everyday behaviour and attitudes
the essence of leadership in the clinical setting. They should show
courage and determination in working with others to improve the
quality of patient care in ways that are demonstrably cost effective
and sustainable. We are looking for those who to transform services
and consistently deliver high quality care.
The winner will also receive a grant towards their personal and professional development.
two: THE CHIEF SCIENTIFIC OFFICER’S
AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP (ENGLAND)
Sponsored by Department of Health England
The CSO’s award seeks to recognise healthcare scientists in the
early years of their careers who demonstrate in their everyday
behaviour and attitudes the essence of leadership. They should
show courage and determination in working with others to improve
the quality for patient benefit in ways that are demonstrably cost
effective and sustainable and provide improved outcomes. We are
looking for those who transform services and consistently deliver at
a high level.
The winner will also receive a grant towards their personal and professional development.
three: IMPROVING QUALITY – MEASURING
AND DEMONSTRATING IMPACT
Sponsored by The Scottish Government
This award seeks to recognise AHPs and healthcare scientists
who have transformed a service/s and in doing so can demonstrate
an improved patient and staff experience.You should also be able to
demonstrate that the transformed service is delivered in a way that
improves the quality of patient care and must prove that the service
is sustainable.
The winner will also receive a grant towards their personal and professional development.
four: RESEARCH INTO ACTION:
THE SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF
RESEARCH FINDINGS TO THE BENEFIT
OF PATIENTS

for Healthcare Science
Exclusively for healthcare scientists, this award seeks to recognise
those who have translated the outcomes of their own or others’ research
and put them into practice in their work setting. The judges are
looking for clear evidence of the way the service has been improved
to the benefit of patients and clients as a result of changing practice
according to research findings.
five: ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
AND HEALTHCARE SCIENTISTS
LEADING TOGETHER ON HEALTH
Sponsored by Unite the Union
Entries are invited to illustrate successful collaboration between
these groups. An essential part of modernising healthcare is
developing team working across professional groups. AHPs and
healthcare scientists do not always come into contact with one
another but in some spheres effective joint working can revolutionise
patient services.
six: RETHINKING THE
PATIENT CARE PATHWAY
Sponsored by Department of Health, Social Services and
Public Safety Northern Ireland
The work of healthcare scientists in diagnostics and treatment is
key in ensuring patients are treated promptly and the work of AHPs
helps to speed their journey home. This award recognises the
crucial part these professionals play in improving access and
boosting productivity.
seven: ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

This aims to encourage creative entries which take a fresh approach
to learning and development. Entries are invited from practitioners
at any level who have achieved excellence and innovation in skills
training or professional development to enhance knowledge and
technical competence to the benefit patients
eight: INTO THE LIMELIGHT
Sponsored by Caboo Design
A challenge for those in the allied health professions and in
healthcare science is to find a way to describe to the public and
media how they contribute to improved patient care. It is the
larger healthcare professions that get the publicity and its time that
others moved into the limelight so that their role can be understood,
appreciated and developed. This award illuminates projects and
initiatives which have helped explain your work.
nine: OVERALL WINNER
The judges will select an outstanding entry from the winning entries
in each category. This category may not be entered directly.
