Handling People Problems
|
The need to develop the skills of junior and middle managers in undertaking ‘difficult’ conversations arose as a result of the reorganisation of the human resources department to devolve more responsibility for issues which had traditionally been handled by the HR department. HR business partners are now working alongside service unit managers and an intranet based HR resource is being developed.
The aim is to help managers acquire the confidence to tackle performance issues head-on before a more serious situation develops into dispute, grievance or disciplinary action.
The course aims to fill a gap: skills in appraising and performance review are already covered; as are skills in handling the formal disciplinary and grievance procedures. The gap is for training in the soft skills to gain confidence to deal with staff whose performance falls short of what is expected.
