Patient Safety Research links
Below are some more specific links to patient safety research organisations; some specialise in a particular area of patient safety.
- The Department of Public Health at Birmingham University hosted the Patient Safety Research Portfolio, which until recently was the main avenue for patient safety research in the UK. Details of the research undertaken (including links to the final reports where available) can be found at

- Imperial College London has an established patient safety research unit which can be found at www.csru.org.uk. In addition, in collaboration with St Mary’s Hospital Paddington, London they have just received new research funding from the National Institute for Health Research. They will be researching into ‘Safety, quality, resilience and reliability of technology; effective use of information technology; the role of NHS managers and staff in enhancing patient safety.’
- King’s College London have also received NIHR funds: they will be researching ‘New and emerging health technologies; the organisation and management of health services and staff to reduce risk.’
